5 Ways On How To Keep Your Diet Under Control And Enjoy Eating Out

One of the misconceptions when people are trying to lose fat and unwanted weight is this… believing that you have to deprive yourself of things you enjoy. Many people have complained to me… feeling like they can’t go out to cafes or restaurants with friends and enjoy themselves.

And, in the end you sabotage your own weight loss success because you feel frustrated and left out.

Yet, this doesn’t need to be the case. There are weight loss tips and tools that you can put into action your life… so you can enjoy eating out while losing weight.

So, keep reading as I share with you 5 weight loss tips on how to keep your diet in check… while happily eating out too.

1. Small = BIG

You might be wondering what I mean when I say, “Small = BIG.” Well, even today it’s still recommended by “experts” that everyone should eat 3 meals a day.

Yet, this way of eating can result in you piling on the calories and increasing your weight. Instead, think about it this way….

When you’re out at restaurants… order appetizers or entrees which are usually smaller portion sizes. What’s great with this is that you can order a few different dishes… and then share the meals with your partner, friend or family. At least you get to try some different dishes and have variety.

Plus, the great thing about being at parties is that oftentimes there’s finger food. So, you can graze throughout the party and not feel left out. Of course, grazing on sweets and deep fried foods all night will make you put on unwanted weight.

So, remember when you’re out and about ENJOYING eating, while losing weight… Small = BIG. Having smaller portions of good foods over time, will help in your efforts to lose MORE weight.

2. Choose the Carbs to HELP You Keep the Weight Off

Now, I’m sure that many of you are like me… and love having bread especially freshly baked.

Yet, at many restaurants they offer bread to start before your meal. And, sometimes they keep offering you bread until you say no.

So, I’m going to tell you right now, if you’re going to be tempted to do this… then DON’T have any bread at all, because the calorie count will be piling up – just like the weight you’ll put on as a result.

But, that’s no fun right?

So, make WISER bread choices if you want to indulge. For example, have a piece of wholemeal or rye bread. And, take your time to savor the flavors.

Also, when choosing spreads, skip the margarine… as it’s full of chemicals and processed elements which wreak havoc with your body. The better choices to help you lose weight, while enjoying eating is butter.

Plus, even better than butter is extra virgin olive oil, which is a good fat to have in your diet. So, at least you have some options when going out.

3. Slow Down When Eating!

When you’re rewarding yourself for reaching a milestone in your weight loss journey… this can include going out to a nice restaurant. Yet, what many people do is rather than enjoy the moment… they gorge their food, and the satisfaction is over within minutes.

Yet, one key weight loss tip when going out and eating is so simple. And, that’s to take your time when eating, enjoying the flavours.

Tricking your body into thinking it’s not hungry anymore is to slow down when eating. When you gobble your food down in five minutes… more often than not, you’ll eat more. And, what does that do? Make you put on more unwanted flab.

So, chew your food slowly, it’s not a race! Enjoy the flavors, and being out with your family and friends. The great thing about this is, you can incorporate this healthy eating habit when at home too.

4. Slim Drinks

Earlier I talked about not depriving yourself of things you enjoy. And, I had to bring this topic up of drinking alcohol while trying to lose weight… because many of my clients like to indulge in some alcoholic drinks while on their weight loss plan.

Now, let’s put things into perspective…

A standard glass of red wine has about 85 calories and a glass of beer has around 150+ calories. Doesn’t sound like a lot of calories for alcoholic drinks, right? Yet, who really stops at just one drink?

So, imagine if you had a few glasses of wine or beer throughout your meal or at a party! That could be hundreds of calories, which all adds up when you’re trying to lose weight.

But, no-one wants to add more flab to that beer belly, your hips or thighs, right? And, that amount of calories is only from your drinks, no food included. So, I don’t need to tell you how you could blow up your weight loss plan.

Now, a glass of soda has about 60 calories and a glass of water has ZERO. So, a simple weight loss tip is to have drink water throughout your meal or at the party, if you want to drink alcohol. And, some benefits of drinking water is that it will help fill you up, so you eat less.

Plus, the water will help hydrate your body and your skin, as well as helping to flush out toxins.

And, to make drinking water more flavorsome… add a slice or two of fresh lemon and lime to jazz it up. So, keep those calories down when it comes to drinks, and have more water than alcohol when out and about.

5. Smart Sweet Selection

I can imagine many of you now thinking, it’s coming up towards the end of the meal… and that means dessert! Now, if you want to lose weight fast for that school reunion, wedding… or even to look great on that vacation in a swimsuit, then skip dessert. And, I know some of you will do this.

Yet, if you want to have something sweet to finish off a great night out, choose wisely.

Want a slab of chocolate cake with lots of cream, and ice-cream too? You can, but think of the EXTRA effort you’ll have to put in to lose all those calories. Don’t ruin your progress!

Why make losing weight hard for yourself when you don’t need to?

It’s no secret that desserts are generally high calorie foods. For example, a few small bite-sized chocolate pieces can have up to 70 calories. To burn that fat off … you’ll need to run on the treadmill for about 20 - 30 minutes depending on the speed and incline.

Again, I know that some of you will do that extra exercise. Yet, I know many of you won’t. So, don’t self-sabotage your weight loss journey and the progress you’ve made so far.

Simply make smarter choices with low calorie desserts, remembering portion control. Think sorbets, baked flavorsome fruits, or chocolate dipped strawberries.

So, when you’re on a weight loss plan… you CAN still enjoy eating and drinking when going out. And, these 5 tips will help to keep you on track.
